              1) Noble titles are linked through associated titles property, so that allows Chieftains to be noted. As clans have officialy recognised status, their chiefs use official titles -> see Lord Macdonald of Clan Donald.

I'm stuck though, How best do I create a view for 'People who are clan chiefs'? -> I can do it in MQL  but can't seem to do the same in the UI - i.e. I need to find noble person who has a title which is linked to from the 'associated titles' property of Scottish Clan.

I had a similar problem with the castles view, and in the end just manually added the 20 or so castles to that view......

              2) I include the family type which allows family members there.

I think the trick may be to collect your titles together in a System of Nobility.  I temporarily tagged Scottish Clan as a System of Nobility, but there might be a better place for this.  With some digging on the Lyon Court's web site you might be able to figure out what the official name of the system is (assuming it has one).

Then you can set up a Noble Person table with  Titles->Noble Title->Used In->System->Scottish Clan.

I also cleaned up the tagging for the Lord Lyon and typed the Lyon Court as a Heraldry Granting Body so that you can use it.

              That's a good hack, thanks.

Having dug around on The Court of Lord Lyon website, it seems that the Court registers Clan Chiefs in an indirect way through only giving Chiefly Arms to certain people (i.e. the chief of a clan).

extract from www.lyon-court.com : "application may be made to the Lord Lyon for confirmation that the chiefly Coat of Arms, enjoyed by the last chief, should be confirmed to such a person.

The Lord Lyon reviews the genealogical evidence and must be satisfied that the applicant's descent is correctly proved. If the Lord Lyon is satisfied he recognises the applicant as chief of the clan and confirms him in the chiefly Arms."

I've found a better way -> using Clan Chief as a rank of the title of a chief.

Noble Person -> Noble Title -> Noble Rank == Scottish Chief.

With the castle issue - it would be better to use the Architectural Structure Owner type from the architecture domain.

Sprocket, just wanted to let you you know your work on heraldry, chivalry, and scottish clans is all fantastic, and if you're into it, I'd like to see about working to include the first two, at least, in our royalty and nobility commons.  Seems sufficiently closely connected that it should belong there, I think.

skud, thanks for having a look at these bases.  There is still some tweaking to do, but chivalry is mostly there.  I'm not too sure the schema in heraldry is fully complete, as there is a lot of information that it doesn't capture (colours for a start).

Scottish clans needs a lot more work....

I would be happy to have the heraldry and chivalry bases in the Royalty & Nobility commons if that is appropriate.

What's the process for this sort of migration? Is anything required on my part?
